Camel-colour tractor soled platforms at New Look

New Look have nailed two trends in one with these stylish and eminently affordable platform shoes. They’re a dusky camel colour that’s essential for A/W 2010 wear, and have a rugged ‘tractor’ style tread to give them that work-wear look.

Jessica Simpson Dany T-Strap Sandals

Lindsey from Saucy Glossie was one of the gals I met at the TJMaxx/Marshalls Fashion Bloggers Event in Boston, and she wore these fabulous Jessica Simpson Dany Platform Sandals in Light Tan (also available in Black from Shoes.com $99 with Free Shipping), paired with an outfit from T.J.Maxx.  Not sure I could pull off wearing a 2″ platform without feeling I was walking on stilts, but Lindsey did with no problem. In fact she said they weren’t hard to walk in at all! Make a major fashion statement in the voluminous Jessica Simpson Dany sandals. Leather upper in a T-strap dress sandal style with a round peep toe. 2 inch faux wood platform midsole, center T-strap, cupped heel and adjustable instep strap with a polished metal buckle and an elasticized inlay. Smooth lining and cushioning footbed, smooth traction outsole. 5 inch wrapped heel. jessica simpson platform

Jimmy Choo Nixon Platform Sandals

I just flew back from New York City, and boy are my arms tired (that joke never gets old, just lame). I saw a ton of fabulous shoes while in the Big Apple and will try to upload as many of them as possible (that I took pictures of), as soon as I catch up (on sleep mainly). But today the shoes that caught my eye/s were these Jimmy Choo yellow suede ‘Nixon’ platform sandals . They are also available in fuchsia suede . Probably the most iconic shoes of our time, it goes without saying that every woman needs a pair of Jimmy Choo’s. * Color: Yellow * Suede upper * Open, softly pointed toe * T-strap vamp with buckle-close ankle strap * Leather lining * Synthetic sole * 4½” chunky wooden heel * 1¼” cork platform * All measurements are approximate * Suede / Cork; Italy; style#308120101 So, do you think Jimmy Choo named this “Nixon” sandal after the late President Richard Nixon?  After all, he was scandalous.  In fact, he was the President when I born (that tells you what era I was born in and approximately my age).  Or was this wood heel platform sandal named after a Nixon Watch ? I looked at some Nixon Watches online , and I’m guessing no. Jimmy Choo Nixons are available from BlueFly.com , just as you can shop Nixon Watches online as well. Jimmy Choo Sandal

Alternatives to Sky High Shoes

I was goofing around online the other day and saw a photo of a young celebrity nearly trip while wearing platform pumps.  She didn’t end up on her kiester, but it was close.  I was reminded of an event that happened several years ago, but have never forgotten it.  I didn’t tell anyone, not even Mr. R5, because it was so embarrassing. I was in a pair of 4.5 inch platforms. The weather had turned windy and rainy and I struggled to open a door that was being blown shut by the wind.  I rushed into the building, and the door slammed behind me, throwing me off balance.  My wet stilettos hit the marble floor, I skittered across that lobby, going through all sorts of contortions, goofed my knee and broke one of the d#mn heels off.  BUT I didn’t fall.  It was quite an acomplishment, but there is no way it can be done with aplomb.  When I look at some of these 5.5 and 6 inch, double and triple platform shoes, with the heel being no more substantial than a pencil,  the phrase that comes to mind is, “these are an ankle waiting to break.”  I don’t know, maybe I am too cautious, maybe I realize that fifty year old  bones don’t heal like they used to, or maybe I am  just grouchy.  I find myself wearing more wedges, chunkier heels and a lower heel to toe ratio because the stability is greater.  While there were still extreme heels, we saw LOTs of kitten heels on last season’s  runway. Let’s look at some wedges and low heels that will keep me from falling flat on my rump. Stuart Weitzman Bukstrum $335 at Zappos   These are gorgeous.  However Weitzman shoes run narrow and small. Daniblack Ace $105 at Zappos   I would like to see this shoe in person.  It is nothing like I have ever purchased, but it looks fun. Salvatore Ferragamo Flo $495 at Zappos   Another beautiful professional shoe. Christian Louboutan Miss Boxe $625 at Saks.com    Christian Louboutan IS  more than platforms. Ash Wedge Boot  $275 at Saks.com   OK.  The only reason I don’t own these is because they don’t have my size.  They are a little high for my everyday needs, but are they wonderful or what.   I saw this boot in Phoenix, and all I wanted to do is touch it.  The salesguy kept giving me the stink eye. This one is beautiful..  I have told you about one of my high heel embarrassments, tell us one of YOURS! Authentic Shops: Designer Shoes at Zappos.com Saks Fifth Avenue

River Island Peeptoe Platforms

Bored of peeptoe platforms? Then I’m afraid I’ve got some bad news. This style isn’t budging for a while. River Island have half a dozen pretty peeptoe platforms. This monochrome style is a fairly sophisticated option, although I’m not completely won over by the glossy plastic sole, which has something of a lapdancer theme. Grab them online for £64.99 .

KG by Kurt Geiger ‘Ivy’ shoes

These high court sandals are real ‘dancing’ shoes, even though they were obviously not designed for the purpose. Encrusted with glitter and gemstones, they’re some of the glitziest shoes around, and would quickly bring out the fairy princess in anybody!

Where did Louise Roe get those platforms?

US TV presenter Louise Roe wore some interesting creations to the CBS summer party in Los Angeles last night; a seriously dressed-up event with the likes of Ashley Tisdale, AnnaLynne McCord and Shenae Grimes in attendance. WhileTisdale and others went for the relatively ’safe’ option of Louboutin heels, Roe (also a fashion journalist, so we assume she knows what she’s doing!) rocked up in these unusual looking platforms.

Floral platform shoes from Miss Selfridge

Miss Selfridge have jumped on the floral bandwagon with gusto, embracing pretty floral tea dresses, floral corsages and, as beautifully demonstrated on the left, vintage floral heels. These platform heels have more than a whiff of 70s chic about them. The chunky heel balances out the oversized bow that adorns several of their current styles. The style also comes in a black and white polka dot pattern, and both styles are a bargain at £49.

Kurt Geiger ‘Kinetic’ platforms in khaki

If you’re looking for that perfect middle ground between heel height, ankle support and wearability, these strapping platforms from Kurt Geiger could just be for you. They’re certainly tall: five-and-a-half inches high, in fact, but we’re liking the look of that thick, secure strap with its double buckle at the top. And being made by our old favourite KG, we’ll take it on trust that the shoes are well made enough to take our active feet!
